Bank Told to Pay up for Clearing Fake Cheque
A district consumer court directed the Bank of India to pay R1.10 lakh to one of its customers for clearing a cheque worth R1 lakh with his forged signature. Holding the bank guilty of rendering deficient service, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum said before clearing a high-value cheque, the bank, as per normal banking practice, should have checked with the account holder if he issued it.
